EVS Case History
A foundry in the Midwestern USA has two 35
MT coreless furnaces for melting ductile iron. This customer uses
MINRO-SIL® RAM 1001 and DRI-VIBE® 400Z, a
zircon-containing refractory, in the taper. An outside contractor was
hired to line these furnaces using a pneumatic internal form vibrator (low
frequency). It would take the contractor 9 hours to complete a total
reline with 5 people.
Utilizing the EVS, the customer can
now use their own personnel to install the linings and the installation
time now takes 6 hours with only 4 people. Bulk packaging is now used for
the MINRO-SIL® and an extra 225 kg of refractory is installed during
each reline. Campaign life has increased 20% (4 to 5 weeks) before the
lining is shave repaired. More time could be saved, but the customer
prefers to manually de-air the material in the taper since this section
has historically been their most troubled area.
End result: Labor
reduced by 20%.
Installation time reduced by 33%.
